KFVS12 reports Sherri Sprengerman was convicted of elder abuse via a guilty plea in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She was accused of slapping a 98-year-old patient while she was employed at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She has been subsequently fired from her tenure there.
Police stated that Sprengerman admitted that she lost her temper when the patient allegedly yelled at her and she responded with a back hand to the face of the patient. The police were called when the family of the elderly woman noticed bruising on her face. Sprengerman stated that she did not mean it and appeared to be remorseful.
The judge sentenced her to two years in jail and was put on probation. The judge stated that any violation of the probation would lead to her being incarcerated. The terms of her sentence include writing the family of the victim a letter of apology, anger management counseling, and 80 hours of community service.
